Crime Prevention through Environmental Design

Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED) is defined as a multi-disciplinary approach to deterring criminal behaviour through environmental design. CPTED strategies rely upon the ability to influence offender decisions that precede criminal acts by affecting the built, social and administrative environment. It is pronounced ‘sep-ted’ and is known by various labels or names around the world such as Designing out Crime and other acronyms.

NEAL Consulting SolutionsHaving undertaken and satisfied the requirements of the Safer by Design programme conducted the New South Wales Police Force, NEAL Consulting is able to assist implement the guidelines under section 79C of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, which are designed to assist New South Wales, Local Government Areas (Councils) consider and implement CPTED principles when assessing development applications.

Similarly, we are also able to offer Safer by Design (SBD) Crime Risk Assessments/CPTED assessments to the private and public sectors as a five part assessment instrument designed to identify situational crime opportunities and risk and treatment (crime mitigation) options.
